Meeting the challenge

Last fall, AGF Du-For was involved in rebuilding the roof of the no. 2 water intake at the Shawinigan hydroelectric plant. The challenge was to find a solution that would enable a dozen workers to move around on the roof’s surface without risk of falling. The constraints on the roof were such that we were unable to use traditional anchoring methods. To develop a safe procedure, the engineering department worked with Hydro-Québec and Couvertures Victo 2 000. The AGF Du-For Trois-Rivières team installed more than 2,500 feet of steel cable that encircled the 450-foot-long building lengthwise and crosswise. The main purpose of the cable was to delimit a distance from the edge of the roof so that workers could fasten themselves safely.  After completing the interior work within the allotted time, we can declare the project a success!
