Special Projects Group – Gaining Momentum!

2014 has been a good year so far for Hydro Mobile's Special Projects Group, and the momentum seems to be building stronger as year-end quickly approaches.

TESCO, one of Hydro Mobile's USA distributors, has engaged the Special Projects Group in two unique applications for the nuclear industry. Earlier in the year, Hydro Mobile delivered two special, mast climbing platforms (one F300-Series and one E-Series) to the VC Summer Nuclear facility located in Jenkinsville, South Carolina (USA). TESCO installed and commissioned both units later used for the construction of nuclear modules. With integrated electrical drive systems, special bridging, steel decking, along with adjustable and custom-designed toe boards, both units were very unique in nature and a first for TESCO.

Elsewhere in South Carolina, Hydro Mobile supplied dual, electrically powered, transport platform systems operating on a single mast tower. Both units were used to transport personnel and material to the rooftop of a turbine building located at the Duke Oconee Nuclear Plant. Complete with loading and landing docks (both tailored to suit site specific geometric requirements), the transport platforms are awaiting to be commissioned in the coming weeks.

International construction company, Saudi Oger, approached Hydro Mobile Special Projects Group seeking an access solution for the new Haramain High-Speed Rail Terminal located in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Part of the challenge was to provide a free-standing, 65-foot tall, 2200 square-foot common platform to enable work to be completed to the underside of the terminals ornate roof. Hydro Mobile designed and implemented an imaginative, cost-effective solution. Four P-Series units were mechanically linked while offering manoeuvrability, excellent capacity, and stability. With a common platform deck (comprised of Aluma beam framework), the common platform system could be rolled into place for erection at the intended area, while providing stability at all stages of the installation process.

Two more projects were recently negotiated, in which two are pending final purchase order documentation, which include four inclined P-Series complete with aluminum sliders (Ohio River East End Bridge Crossing, Kentucky, USA), and four P-Series units (Ohio River Downtown Bridge Crossing, Kentucky, USA). First delivery is scheduled for the end of November, while the balance is due in Q1 & Q2 of 2015.

The Special Projects Group remains focused in leading the market with creativity and innovative solutions. Although focused on a variety of special applications across North America, nuclear plants and bridges have taken a pole position when it comes to Special Projects Markets on the Move.
