An Achievement Valuing Reinforcing Steel

AGF Steel is proud to have been the main rebar supplier in the construction of the East insertion structure of the Train de l’Est, in Terrebonne. Worth some $30 million dollars, this element was one of the most important step in the Train de l’Est project, the new line of commuter train of the Agence métropolitaine deTransport (AMT)[i]. This structure alone required 1.6 million kg of steel, costing about $ 4.3 million.

The work to be performed included the lowering of Highway 640 and the insertion of the rail structure in Terrebonne, a project requiring gigantic infrastructures. Consequently, entrepreneurs had to deal with certain constraints to carry out this project, including the fact that much of the structure was to be built in a right-of-way of only 25 meters wide.

However, all the objectives were achieved and hard work was rewarded: last May, the construction of the East insertion structure of the Train de l’Est  won the Armatura Award 2013, category Engineering. This prize, presented by the Quebec Reinforcing Steel Institute, rewards projects based on general presentation, development of concrete, development of methods and social and economic benefits.
