Highway 30: latest developments

The Highway 30 project is entering the final phase of construction.  During the summer season, which will span a scant 20 weeks, some 7,500 MT of steel will be installed. The NA30CJV consortium is still planning to open the highway section before next Christmas.

The thrust block for the north span of the box girders supporting the bridge deck over the Beauharnois Canal has now been completed. The 150-metre span over the St. Lawrence Seaway is a record in itself: the world’s second longest launched bridge (after the Millau viaduct in France) and the longest lauched bridge as a composite construction (steel and concrete). A total of 5,000 MT will be installed on the bridge deck and diaphragms!

The biggest challenges from now to the end of the project will be supplying steel to the worksites and assigning the required workers. We can already tell it’s going to be a hot summer!
