How to Recognize a Good Employee

Good employees are reliable, dependable, proactive, diligent, great leaders and great followers.

Those are a few qualities that exemplify great employees:

They are flexible – In a company as large as ours, it is important that employees can think on their feet, adapt and shift priorities, and do whatever it takes, no matter their role or position. They also keep customers happy by recognizing when to deal with a problem without being asked – even if it is not part of their job description.

They are quirky – The best employees are unusual. Quirky personalities make it fun to work and bring flair to a plain team. People who are different stretch boundaries and often come up with good ideas to resolve issues.

They know when to step back – Unusual personalities are a lot of fun but when major issues arise and the situation gets stressful, the best employees stop expressing their personalities and work seamlessly with the team. They seem to know instinctively when to walk a fine line.

They recognize their peers – Excellent employees always recognize the contribution of others and give praise easily.

They speak to their boss in private – These awesome employees get more latitude due to their performance. However, they will always discuss sensitive issues in private and not bring it up in a group setting.

They will speak their mind – Most employees are afraid to ask questions in meetings. Excellent employees step up and raise issues that others are hesitant to raise.

They streamline processes – These ambitious people are always finding ways to streamline processes, in order to expedite matters.
