In response to its growing information technology needs, AGF Group set up an IT systems department early in 2010. The main goal was to provide personalized assistance to users and ensure the smooth operation and security of our computer systems. Subsequently, we wanted to provide the same level of service to IT users throughout the Group’s divisions. Initially available to AGF Steel, Acier ATR, Acier Ecan and AGF Alberta Rebar, the service is now offered to all AGF Group divisions and subsidiaries, both in Canada and internationally.
Six people comprise the AGF Group’s IT department: Yves Landry and Olivier Cinéas, both IT support technicians; Denis Vachon, tech support coordinator; Pascal Langlois, systems administrator; Olivier Piché, systems advisor; and Sébastien Lamoureux, team director. They are ably supported by Jonathan Allaire, who works in the scaffolding and access sector. In addition, several external suppliers assist us locally at remote sites, and interns help us out during peak periods.
The department consists of two teams. The first is technical support, which is responsible for production, i.e. ensuring that all the IT tools provided to employees operate properly at all times and responding to all the IT-related questions they receive. The second, the systems team, handles all projects to maintain and developing the technological infrastructures that support AGF Group’s IT tools.
AGF Group’s IT support receives more than 450 requests every month, and at the same time manages nearly 40 projects for some 400 colleagues at close to 15 sites in Canada and the rest of the world.
Last year, several major projects were completed to increase the company’s productivity: introduction of the GoogleApps platform, a revolution in collaboration software, implementation of a private local fibre-optics network connecting all of the Group’s Canadian divisions, upgrades to the aSa application and deployment of Citrix for the entire scaffolding and access sector.
