What’s new at Winsafe

Recent realization

Through our concerted efforts, we’ve overcome challenges and reached new milestones at Winsafe. That’s why the successful installation of the first boiler maintenance work platform (BMWP) in Canada meant so much to all those involved. Reaching this milestone successfully was only possible through everyone’s hard work and dedication.

Over the past few months, the BMWP was installed in the coal-fired boiler, put into service and then fully retracted upon completion, after being tremendously useful to everyone involved with the outage. Before the installation and first launch could even take place, every member of the Winsafe team who would be onsite had to complete some 20 hours of safety training and certification.

This project was made all the more challenging since the contract involved a performance requirement specifying that the total time for the platform’s launch (before use) and the retraction afterward could total no more than 20 hours real time and no more than 220 man-hours overall. Our BMWP system can usually be launched or retracted in a typical eight-hour shift, as compared to the four days each way it would take to first erect and then dismantle conventional scaffolding. The total launch and retraction was accomplished in just over 11 hours, with 127 man-hours. This resounding success, which exceeds the performance requirement, is a true testament to everyone’s efforts and commitment to this project.

The traditional Car Show

With the summer weather finally returning, Winsafe will be hosting its annual Car Show to help raise money for charity at the manufacturing facility in Woodstock, Ontario, on July 18. Please contact Mat Ferguson (mat@winsafe.com) or me for more details if you’d like to attend. We will have live entertainment provided by Jack London Studios and a BBQ. We hope local radio stations will also be able to attend to promote the event. There will also be a raffle for four Blue Jays tickets, for seats located right behind home plate! We will also have other raffles and draws for gifts generously donated by our suppliers. There will be good food, great live music and amazing cars—all for a great cause.

We continue to raise funds through various activities such as 50/50 draws, charity lunches and raffles. We got off to a great start in 2015, and the recent months have been some of our best to date. We’d like to thank all Winsafe employees who participated. Your generosity is much appreciated by the Dundas United Church and its Angel Breakfast program, which provides food and shelter for the homeless throughout the year.
